Designer Bio
ZION, the creation of designer Sylvia Lee, is named for that famous summit
whose meaning and presence acts as both inspiration and a symbol in the life of the designer. Zion's precise elegance is the culmination of Sylvia Lee's education as a graduate of the Parsons School of Design and her varied apprenticeships with well established designers. While studying in 1984 with the legendary couturier, Pauline Trigere, Sylvia Lee found an appreciation for the subtle and completive power of couture and for what that power can create.
In 1988-89, under the tutelage of Dimitri Couture, known as "the master tailor" to Europe's exclusive rich and famous households, Sylvia Lee's education and preparation came full circle. Her confidence in her ability to service an exacting customer inspired Sylvia to open her Soho boutique in 1990 and has steadily built a loyal clientele. A strong believer in the tradition of designers like Dimitri Couture and Coco Chanel, both of whom worked from a "boutique base" where they met and interacted with their clients in an accessible atmosphere. Sylvia maintains a similar presence in her Soho store.
She can be found there frequently on Saturdays as she goes about her art of checking the pulse of her customer's current needs and desires. In reference to those clients, Sylvia has to say, "I believe in the intelligence of my customers and the loyalty of that intelligence. These are strong, confident, self–assured women coming into my store. My customer already has status; she doesn't need to hawk someone's name across her back. She looks instead for a product which is well made and priced fairly, the ultimate value. Zion has that integrity which keeps her attention season after season."
